Paving Drives and Wagon Rides

 IMG_8353
As you may already know from a previous post, the butcher shop Papa Smurf owns, recently got a make-over in the pavement department.  And what a stir it created that week.  After dodging potholes, dealing with limited parking due to folks who don’t know how to park, and just generally wanting the place to look more professional, the crew was finally lined up to come and spiffy up the drive.
Little did any of us realize that it would not only cause the customers to enjoy the smooth ride, but that our inner child would once again come alive and on the busiest day of the week!  Thursdays are the days the guys slaughter the animals and there is little time for “horsing around”.  Mom always brings breakfast for the entire crew because Papa Smurf feels it is important for them to take a tiny break and it’s a nice breather from the hurried pace you’ll find out in the “kill floor”.  Now that Jamie has the privilege of delivering the bison on a Thursday, we also get to play a part in Thursday’s…I go along on the days it suits me and I think it’s a grand excuse to see my family if only for a little.  So on this particular day we were thrilled that we got to be included in the festivities.  The pavement was still a tad “wet” so it was empty…that was except for…
THE WAGON!!!
My older brother, Mike, had gotten the idea that morning to break in the driveway in true, well, Mikey style.  He videotaped himself on the first ride over the smooth blacktop and what a hoot to watch!  So at lunchtime we all agreed that it was an image that needed recreated.  We had no idea that paving the driveway could be so therapeutic for soul, but therapeutic it was.  We all enjoyed a day of laughter, family and a sense of childhood again.  Just about everyone, even Mom, had their turn on the wagon.
I left that day feeling like the little girl inside didn’t completely grow up with me…there’s still a part of her that craves a little wagon ride down a freshly paved drive.  So come along with me as I share the memory and thrill of “The Ride”!

I was also able to capture a few pictures of Jason’s girls who usually come over to see us on Thursdays.  Sure makes the visit all the more sweeter when some tiny people are waiting to see you!

Splish Splash

Our family isn’t usually big on celebrating the “little” holidays, ya know, Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc.  But this year again we have the unique opportunity to be together as well as an excuse to have another party at our house.  (Our house, not in Montana, but our house…an hour from my “home”…yes, I’m still pinching myself!)  I thought for sure there would be a few missing from our party due to other family obligations but they all made it and WE HAD A BLAST!!!

The highlight of the evening was the water battle between Isaac and his Uncle Jason.  We saw a side of Isaac that must have been lying dormant and when soaked in water emerges like a wild sea monster!  He LOVES the water and the minute his Uncle jumped in to join him the 2 became like little boys enjoying a day at the pool and what a show to have a front row ticket for!  These pictures don’t need an explanation…they’re pretty self explanatory.

IMG_8539IMG_8526 IMG_8527 IMG_8534IMG_85325The minute after Jason jumped in…next time could you give us ample warning so we can get the action shots?  Thank you in advance.

These last 2 were taken by Rachel’s daddy, Jason.  Great job, wanna go into business together?

Well there you have it, folks, the wild and crazy little people who have become such an important part in my family and make our time together so fun and truly unique.  I got a little carried away with the pictures but this is my blog and the rules clearly state you can post as many or as few pictures as you want to…so deal with it.  And Happy 4th to all (5 of you that is) who faithfully read my blog.

PS: Comments are always welcome!
