Too Busy to Blog, Part 1

Where has the time gone?  Well since I haven’t picked up the blogging pen since Paving Drives, I thought it was time to update my blog with all the happenings from the summer and early fall.  We’ve been busy this summer with parties, reunions, bus trips, work…the list could go on and on.  So I’ll try to highlight and trust me when I say, this truly is the highlight compared to the few thousands pictures I actually took this summer!

First on the agenda was the Fisher Reunion we attended on I think one of the hottest days of the summer.  We all met at a park and spent some time catching up over some delicious food, among other things…

There was time in the park with Great Grandpa…

Coloring and walks with Uncle Jamie and Daddy…

Straw hats and laughs between brothers…

IMG_8731 IMG_8786

And of course the annual picture of the brothers and their wives…

IMG_8796 IMG_8849 A there was more time in the park with Daddy and Mommy andIMG_8842 Aunt Jess as well as a few self photos…IMG_0198Copy of IMG_0208”No, Rachel, your a little too close…”Copy of IMG_0206 …”now your cooking!”

And then we had the bus tour from Smucker’s Meats.  The management team at Smucker’s had decided that they would like to treat their employees to a day out to visit a few of their ever so loyal customers in Maryland.

IMG_8915 Twin Springs Farm, a company owned by Gunpowder Bison, was their first stop.  Jamie and his fellow co-workers had been diligently getting things ready for their visit…even up to the last minute…doesn’t he look in his element here??IMG_8918So we got front row seats to their arrival and quite a warm greeting from Papa Smurf.  We had a beautiful day ahead of us and much fun, food, and laughter to be had.  From the start they all seemed to IMG_8924 IMG_8926

be enjoying their trip.  They got to see the beautiful meadows at Twin Springs but unfortunately not much of the bison there,IMG_8930although Jamie did his best to lure them in, they didn’t bite.  IMG_8947 IMG_8938  IMG_8955The bus then drove them a short distance down the road to the market where they not only got to check out the merchandise but also got a chance to see the products they process and package on display.

Twin Springs also has a petting zoo complete with donkey’s, pot belly pigs, baby bison, and other furry creatures.IMG_9001  IMG_8973

It appeared as if those young and no-so-young were having fun.IMG_8978 IMG_8992 And our lovely “diva”, Elli even enjoyed being passed around…don’t let that look fool you…she really is having a grand day!IMG_8998 IMG_9139

And once again, they were off!  Next stop, Gunpowder Bison and Trading…the “home location”.IMG_9125

Here we were all treated to a fantastic meal prepared by Jamie’s bosses, Trey and Angela Lewis.  They have a beautiful deck and they know how to host a party!  The food at their house is always guaranteed to be good and no was complaining this day!IMG_9034 IMG_9036 IMG_9073 Pappy and Isaac were soon full and needed to take a walk and visit the bison…that’s code for Papa Smurf just couldn’t wait to see the bison and Isaac became a willing participant.IMG_9076We don’t get Isaac smiling all the time, especially on command, so when I do, I share.  The look below is typically the look I get…and I love it cause it’s Isaac!IMG_9086 IMG_9091 They also got a view of the marketing office and got an idea of where all the product travels.  Not everyone was as interested in marketing and bison and as they were the shelving units they could hide inside…IMG_9095   Before leaving a group photo was a must…shoulda charged for this one…what a hassle!  (Just kidding, Mom!)IMG_9131

Next on the agenda was a tour of Morris Choice Bison, also located in Maryland about a half hour from Gunpowder.  Robert Morris owns the business as well as the museum his father constructed on the property.  The museum is full of history and was a unique end to the trip.

IMG_9147  Isaac and Pappy are enjoying some quality time together since they didn’t get to travel in the bus together.

IMG_9167 The museum features several different areas, all with a different theme and each full of antiques.  From the kitchen to the schoolhouse…the tractor shed to the broom shop…it was all quite unique and I’m sure took some time to collect.IMG_9173 IMG_9174 IMG_9178 IMG_9194 IMG_9196 IMG_9236Baby Isaiah got to spend a little quality time with Daddy as he talked with Robert Morris.IMG_9242

I particularly like the goofy expressions in this one…poor kid looks just like his Daddy.  (OK, not true, he’s one cute little guy and I can’t deny it!)IMG_9250

IMG_9262

After another wonderful meal…and attempts at feeding the “local livestock” we dined with…we all headed outside to enjoy the weather and a hayride out to the bison pasture.IMG_9303

Truth be told, I think a few might have admitted at the time that this was their favorite spot of the day.IMG_9293  IMG_9369 IMG_9377

While waiting for the first load of hayriders to return and our turn on the ride, Isaac, Elianna, and Mommy played on the benches.  Isaac with his train…Elianna with her ponies…and she was full of smiles! IMG_9392 IMG_9410 IMG_9416

When asked where the hayride got to, this was Elli’s response.IMG_9428 IMG_9458 Finally I was our turn and I must say that the first group must have been bored because we had all the wise cracks with us.  It was a rather entertaining ride and we got to get up close and personal with bison…OK, it wasn’t nearly that close…you gotta be nuts to get THAT close!IMG_9466 IMG_9472 Let’s just say I wouldn’t want to meet in him in a dark alley!IMG_9473 And their off to Lancaster County again!  To think that a year ago this wasn’t possible is hard to imagine but it’s worth it now to look back and never takes these moments for granted!IMG_9528

Well that concludes Part 1 of our summer adventures.  There’s plenty more to come in the adventures and thrills of Me and Him!
